The Friends Supporting Those with Long-Term Healthcare Needs is a community based, social services agency funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health. We provide caregiving support to seniors living independently and adults 18+ with physical disabilities so they can maintain their independence. Who We Are

For more than 35 years, The Friends has served across the Districts of Parry Sound and Muskoka, Ontario, helping individuals and their family caregivers live with dignity, purpose, and connection. What began as a small local initiative has grown into a trusted network supporting over 900 individuals each year. We are a non-profit, charitable organization with a dedicated team of caregivers, volunteers, and community partners that provides compassionate, reliable care and respite. Together, we continue to serve our communities with the desire for individuals who need personal care support to live well, safely, and independently for as long as they can.

Assisted Living / HOME CARE

Our Home Care programs are designed to support and assist clients with activities of daily living and personal care to gain and / or maintain independence.

Seniors’ Homemaking Program:

The Seniors’ Homemaking Program provides light housekeeping, meal preparation, meds reminders, security checks and companionship. Programs are designed to meet the needs of seniors who are able to direct their own care and who wish to remain independent in their own home.

Post-Stroke Support

Our post stroke program is unique to our region and is offered in Parry Sound to individuals recovering from a stroke.

Adult Day Program

Across our service area, we run social programming where participants enjoy engaging activities, nutritious meals, and companionship, while caregivers gain time to run errands, or simply rest and recharge. Our Adult Day Away programs also support those living with Alzheimer’s / Dementia.

Accessible, Supportive Housing

Our accessible apartments offer comfort, security, and 24/7 on-site assistance that helps residents maintain their independence.

Need Support?

If you or someone you care for needs assistance, our team is here. Referrals to The Friends may be received from the NE/NSM LHIN, local hospitals, Health Service Providers, Primary Care Professionals, Family and Self Referrals.

Referrals from community partners and information may be provided through the Caredove/HPG platforms. The client may participate in orientation visits prior to admission.
