Independent Living Assisstants: Casual, Part-Time

The Friends is recruiting Independent Living Assistants in the Parry Sound area to provide support services in our Housing Program. Independent Living Assistants provide service to individuals with physical disabilities and/or seniors by supporting them in their home with personal care, activities of daily living and encouraging/facilitating client ability to gain/maintain independence.

The Friends is recruiting Independent Living Assistants in the Parry Sound area to provide support services in our Housing Program.

Independent Living Assistants provide service to individuals with physical disabilities and/or seniors by supporting them in their home with personal care, activities of daily living and encouraging/facilitating client ability to gain/maintain independence.Some of the things we are looking for in the successful candidate are:

  • PSW or equivalent experience
  • vehicle and driver’s license are required
  • the ability to work both with direction and independently
  • strong verbal and written communication skills
  • sound judgement and discretion in confidential matters
  • experience and willingness to work as a team member

  • excellent physical strength and stamina

Pay: CA$22.95-CA$26.00 per hour*

*There is a $3/hour wage enhancement that is included in the wage range listed above.

Responsibilities

  • Assist clients with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, grooming, and dressing.
  • Prepare nutritious meals according to preference.
  • Medication cueing and assistance
  • Light housekeeping duties.

Experience

  • Previous experience in caregiving, senior care, assisted living, or home care is preferred.
  • Familiarity with working with persons with disabilities is a plus.
  • Knowledge of meal preparation is beneficial.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills are essential.

The duties of this position will include: bathing, dressing, toileting, medication reminders, light housekeeping and meal preparation.

Qualifications:

  • interest/experience supporting seniors and adults with physical disabilities living in their own home with health care needs
  • background/training in health-related field such as PSW/DSW/SSW is preferred but not necessary
  • understanding of and commitment to independent living and client right to direct their own care
  • excellent physical strength and stamina
  • ability to work with direction and independently
  • strong verbal and written communication skills
  • sound judgement and discretion in confidential matters
  • reliable vehicle, travel is required

$22.95-$26.00

* $3/hour wage enhancement is included in the above rates

* Mileage reimbursement (66 cents/km between client visits)

*10-16 hours per week
